Fishing tour on the Nam Ou

Fishing on the Nam Ou river is an unforgettable adventure filled with cultural immersion and scenic beauty. Discover a charming riverside village and be introduced to traditional fishing techniques and equipment used by local fishermen on a daily basis.

If you stay in Luang Prabang, you will travel from Luang Prabang to Nong Khiaw, which is about 145km by minivan or minibus.

Once familiarized with the fishing techniques, you’ll embark on a captivating upstream journey by long boat, in search of idyllic spots to put your newly acquired skills to the test. You will discover an incredible natural region, with serene beaches, providing both natural shade and an ideal setting for your fishing.

The fish caught will be part of your lunch, cooked in a traditional Lao manner by your guide over a fire. Lunch will consist of grilled fish, fermented Lao vegetables, a traditional stew, assorted side dishes and sticky rice cooked inside bamboo over the open fire. After lunch your journey continues downstream. Along the way, you’ll encounter fellow fishermen utilizing the same techniques you have just learned, showcasing the vibrant fishing culture of the region.

We also offer a fishing cruise on the Mekong River.
